Niki Powell-Cottman, MA, P-LPC

Executive Director & Founder

A DC native from Ward 8’s Anacostia area, Niki turned personal pain into purpose after nearly losing her daughter to suicide multiple times.

Since 2011, Niki has worked across the mental health field as a Behavioral Health Specialist, Service Coordinator, Certified Medication Technician, and SUD Clinical Care Coordinator. Her experience spans alternative schools, group homes, day programs, SUD treatment, community support services, and clinical research, giving her a well-rounded perspective that blends clinical expertise with community-based care.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and is currently working toward licensure as a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) and Certified Addictions Counselor II (CAC II). Her work is rooted in breaking stigma, expanding access, and championing early intervention, with a special focus on youth suicide and substance abuse prevention in underserved communities. As a mother of a suicide survivor, her advocacy is both professional and deeply personal—driven by lived experience, spiritual purpose, and a passion for empowering youth and families.

Believing that healing is a collective journey, she continues to bridge clinical care and grassroots support, offering hope, resources, and safe spaces for those who need them most.

Niki is also a devoted wife, mother of seven, and grandmother of five. Outside of her professional and advocacy work, she finds traveling and jewelry-making therapeutic and considers spending quality time with her family one of life’s greatest and most rewarding blessings.
